What is Metroland?
Metroland Life magazine is a community publication that serves the areas of Chesham, Amersham, and the Chalfonts in Buckinghamshire, England. It was established in 2020 to highlight local events, businesses, and stories that resonate with the residents of these towns. The magazine aims to connect the community by featuring local writers, artists, and businesses often focusing on the unique character and heritage of the area.
Metroland Life aimed to fill a gap in local media by providing relevant content specifically tailored to the needs and interests of the community. Over the years, it has included articles on a variety of topics – such as arts, culture, local history, and community initiatives – as well as profiles of local individuals and organisations.
The magazine has evolved with changing times, embracing both print and digital formats to engage a wider audience. It continues to serve as an important platform for celebrating community spirit and promoting local activities, providing residents with insight into everything happening in their area.

How Metroland began…
But how did the magazine start? Back in 2014, Kathryn Pike (celebrated local photographer) met Tina Reading (magazine editor) on a photo shoot for a wedding magazine at Stoke Park. They instantly hit it off and became firm friends with like-minded morals and interests. Both raising families whilst balancing their careers;Â they knew there was a need for a local magazine offering exposure and something that could combine a Vogue style design with local news.
In 2016, they launched The Foxy Deer, an uber-sleek interactive digital publication covering from Oxford to London. Working with clients such as Le Belmond and Sandals, alongside local businesses such as Bridgemans, the magazine firmly established itself as a must-read.
In 2020, Kathryn and Tina decided to make some changes, as fabulous as Foxy was, the area was just too large for 2 people to cover and they wanted to focus on the fabulously diverse area that is the South Chilterns, particularly Chesham, Amersham, and The Chalfonts – hence Metroland Life launched!
The community is at the heart of Metroland. Tina has been involved in high street rejuvenation projects, Chesham Carnival, and Chiltern Toybank and Kathryn has been involved with her local community organisations for many, many years.
Their combined love of people, business, and community is deeply embedded in the Metroland ethos.
